Madaket

Spectacular sunsets, acres of captivating natural beauty, and stories of colorful characters make the Western tip of the island a must-see for visitors. Madaket is slightly under 6 miles from downtown, accessible via the Madaket bike path or the WAVE Madaket bus route.

Walking:

Conservation land lines surrounds Madaket Road, with miles of conservation trails to explore across multiple ecosystems. Or stroll Madaket beach, from Hither Creek to Smith’s Point.

Biking:

A scenic 6-mile bike ride from downtown to Madaket, on the Madaket bike path takes you by conservation trails with bike parking, and some of the Great Ponds on the island. Rent a bike downtown, have it delivered to your house or hotel, or rent it in Madaket.

There are two bike path options to Madaket departing from downtown. Take the Madaket Road path the entire way, or start on Cliff Road, which offers spectacular views of the bay and eventually intersects with the Madaket Road path.

 Public Transit:

The WAVE bus Madaket route travels between downtown and Madaket, departing every 30 minutes from town (in front of the Whaling Museum). $3 per person cash.
